Tyto alba

Scarce, but widespread residents with 4,000 breeding pairs in Britain & Ireland.

 Breeds in nest boxes and Barns.

Also a common sight hunting around farmland in Europe, & Africa.

Adults have pale face with its heart shape and black eyes gives the flying bird a distinctive appearance.

Some are purer, richer brown instead, and all have fine black-and-white speckles, except on the remiges and rectrices (main wing feathers), which are light brown with darker bands. 

Upperparts grey and light buff.

Underparts white, with few if any black spots; males often appear entirely unspotted.

The call is a screech only in nest.
