Fringilla montifringilla

Scarce Winter visitors & erratic locally common some years in Britain & Ireland from October-March also April.

Breeds in Scandinavia.

Also winter in Southern Europe.

 Breeding-plumaged Males are very distinctive, with a black head, dark upperparts, orange breast and white belly.

Females and Juveniles are less distinct, and more similar in appearance to some chaffinches.

In all plumages, however, Bramblings differs from Chaffinches in a number of features: white rump, orange breast, orange scapular feathers, dark spotting on the flanks & the lack of the white outer tail feathers.

They have a nasual call.
