Common & widespread resident in the UK with 40,500 pairs breeding & scarce in Ireland of 200 pairs.
Also common in most of mainland Europe
Some winter south to South Africa.
Adults are mainly brown with a yellow bil & black tip.
The eyes are brown.
Juveniles are paler than Adults.
They fly with v shaped wings.
The fimliar call is a plaintive, far-carrying pee-yow or peee-oo, used as both contact call and more excitedly in aerial displays.
In Scotland, they are sometimes referred to as "Tourist's Eagle".
