Rare & local resident mostly in Eastern & Southern England.
Has been reintroduced in the South West of England with 18-20 pairs.
Breeds in Spain & France.
Adults have a grey body, with a bare red crown and a white streak extending from behind the eyes to the upper back.
The overall colour is darkest on the back and rump and palest on the breast and wings
They have a pronounced bustle at the rear.
Juveniles have yellow yellowish-brown tips to its body feathers and lacks the drooping wing feathers and the bright neck pattern of the adult
They fly, with their necks streched out in front & give a loud trumpeting call which can be heard from a considerable distance.
It has a dancing display, leaping with wings uplifted.
