Also breeds in Iberia, France, Spain, South Eastern Europe, Asia, North & Central America.

Also known as Red Crossbills.

Males tend to be red or orange in colour, and Females green or yellow, but there is much variation; Juveniles are greyish-green and streaked.

The call is jip, jip, jip in repeative style & usually given in flight.
