Also known as Scarlet Rosefinches.
Rare/scarce migrant from NE Europe with 100-250 per in Britain.
Breeds in Southern & Eastern Europe.
Males have brilliant rosy-carmine head, breast and rump; heavy bill; dark brown wings with two indistinct bars, and a white belly.
Females and Juveniles are dull-coloured with yellowish-brown above, brighter on the rump and greyer on head; buff below.
Their call is unmistakeable & easily remembered as "please to meet to you".
