Sciurus carolinensis
Native of North America, now common & widespread in Britain since the 1800s.
They are common around Southern England, Wales & Ireland, where it has replaced the native Red Squirrel in many areas.
Also been introduced into Italy.
Has predominantly grey fur with brown spots and streaks.
It has a large bushy tail.
Particularly in urban situations where the risk of predation is reduced, both white-colored and black-colored individuals are quite often found.
The melanistic form, which is almost entirely black, is predominant in certain populations and in certain geographic areas, such as in large parts of southeastern Canada.
