European White-fronted Goose

Anser albifrons

Locally common Winter Visitor from October-March with 2,000 in Southern Britain, mainly England & Wales.

Also winters in Southern Europe, the Netherlands, USA & Central Mexico.

Breeds in Siberia, North America, Arctic Canada & in the tundra zone of Russia.

Also known as Greater White-fronted Geese.

This subspecies is different to the Greenland birds in having pink, not orange on the bills.

The black barring the belly is a bit more reduce than on the Greenland.

Again Juveniles lack the white fronts & belly bars, but they do start to devlop before the end of the winter.

The call is a soft musical rytham sound.
