Glaucous Gull

Larus hyperboreus

Rare Winter visitors with 300-500 birds in Britain, mostly between October-April & occasional long stayers.

Breeds in Iceland, Greenland & Northern North America.

Winters south to Central Europe & the Southern USA.

Adults are pale grey above, with a thick, yellow bill.

Juveniles are very pale grey with a pink and black bill.

The call is a "laughing" cry similar to that of the Herring Gull, but deeper.
