Great Shearwater

Puffinus gravis

Rare Summer migrants of 50-100 per year, mostly in South West England.

Breeds on remote islands in the Southern Hemisphere & migrates northwards.

They are seen around Southern coast of Britain & the Bay of Biscay in August-September period.

Adults have dark upper parts, and white under parts, with the exception of a brown belly patch and dark shoulder markings,  a black cap, black bill, and a white "horseshoe" on the base of the tail.
