It's a resident bird in mountainous & Forest areas & a very rare vagrant to Britain, with no records since 1843.
Adults have a white head, broad wings and short tail feathers.
It has a white neck ruff and yellow bill.
The buff body and wing coverts contrast with the dark flight feathers.
Griffon Vultures often lower their legs, well before touch down.
It adds to the impressent of a big stately bird.
