Manx Shearwater

Puffinus puffinus

Locally abundant breeder & common migrant around the British & Irish coast.

Also from Southern Iceland to Northern France.

They fly from the South Atlantic Ocean to Argentina every Autumn on their annual migration.

Has the typically "shearing" flight of the genus, dipping from side to side on stiff wings with few wingbeats, the wingtips almost touching the water.

Also shows the black upper parts and white under sides are alternately exposed as it travels low over the sea.

The call at their breeding colonies at night are a series of croons, howls, and screams.
