Ostrinia nubilalis
Scarce & localized in Britain, mainly nocturnal.
Larvae vary in color from light brown to pinkish grey and have conspicuous small, round, brown spots on each segment along the body.
The main foodplant in Britain is mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris), although abroad it is often a pest on maize crops.
The Female is light yellowish brown with dark, irregular, wavy bands across the wings.
The Male is slightly smaller and darker.
The tip of its abdomen protrudes beyond its closed wings.
The single generation flies in June and July.
