Pacific Diver

Gavia pacifica

Rare & annual vagrant from North America from November-March with 10 records in Britain.

In Summer Adults are similar to Black-throated Divers, but lacks the white flank patch.

Adults & Juveniles are similar to the Black-throated Diver, but don't have a thigh patch.

Some have a chinstrap, others lack them.

Known as Pacific Loons in North America.

First British record was in Febraury 2007 at Farnham GPs, North Yorkshire.
