Common throughout Scotland & Ireland with a few in Wales & induction to Shropshire & the Forest of Dean.
Still present also in Northern England.
Mainly nocturnal.
Also occurs in mainland Europe except Iceland, Caucasus, Western Siberia & Southern Spain.
The American Marten (Martes americana sierrae) is confined only in North America & is very similar.
