Ring-necked Duck

Aythya collaris

Regular vagrants from North America with 10-15 annually in Britain & 300 records for Ireland.

Mostly in September-March period.

Winters south to Southern Central America.

Males have two white rings surrounding its grey bill, a shiny black angular head, black back, white line on the wings, a white breast and yellow eyes. 

Females have a greyish brown angular head and body with a dark brown back, a dark bill with a more subtle light band than the Male, grayish-blue feet and brown eyes with white rings surrounding them.

The call is a noise like trrr.

In flight, they show a grey wingbar on Tufted Ducks it's white.
