Ring-necked Parakeet

Psittacula krameri

Scarce, locally common introduced residents in Britain with 8,500 pairs.

Declining except in London.

Escaped from captivity and are now breeding in the capital city of London.

Originally from Sub-Saharan Africa & Southern Asia, but was introduced to Britain, North Africa & South Eastern USA. 

Also known as Rose-ringed Parakeets.

Males have a pink and black neck ring, and the Female, and Juveniles of both sexes, either show no neck rings, or display shadow-like pale to dark grey neck rings.

Both sexes have a distinctive green colour in the wild with a red beak and blue tail.

It is a noisy species with an unmistakable squawking call.
