Sooty Shearwater

Puffinus griseus

Scarce, but regular migrant during July-September with a few thousand per year around the British & Irish Coasts.

 Breeds on small islands in the South Pacific & Atlantic oceans.

Adults in poor light can look all black, but in good light, it shows up as dark chocolate-brown with a silvery strip along the centre of the underwing.
