Spotted Redshank

Tringa erythropus

Scarce migrants with about 420 per year in Britain & a few present almost all year.

Breeds in the arctic taiga zone of Siberia on the bogs.

Also winters on the coasts of the Mediterranean to Central Africa.

Breeding Adults are black with white spotting.

Winter plumage is very pale & they have supercillium above the eye.

Juveniles are grey-brown finely speckled white above, and have pale, finely barred underparts. 

The call is a creaking whistle teu-it (somewhat similar to the call of a Roseate Tern), the alarm call a kyip-kyip-kyip.
