Rare vagrants to Britain from South East Europe & is a subspecies of the Northern or Great Grey Shrike which is a regular winter visitor to Britain.
Adults have a shorter and narrower tail and a lighter overall grey colour.
Because it is migratory, its wings are longer with longer primary projection than those of the Greater Grey Shrike.
It has large, prominent white spots on the scapula and at the base of the limbs, and the white edges of the tail are very extensive.
The bill has a light base with a dark tip.
