Western Hedgehog

Erinaceus europaeus

Common & widespread in British gardens, rare elsewhere, mainly nocturnal.

Also found in the rest of Western Europe including Southern Scandinavia & Finland.

It appears brownish with most of its body covered by up to 6000 brown and white spines

Males tend to be slightly larger than Females, but sex differences in body weight are overshadowed by enormous seasonal variation.
